No references for you today, they're all at home and I'm not. Just grabbing a few minutes in between things to update on todays readings.
Job had the young lad referred to yesterday going for it in an awfully nice but awfully patronising way which ended up with the conclusion Job was "in rebellion" and that was yet another sin to be added to those which had obviously put him in this position. It made me stop and give a rye smile; the only time I've ever heard the words "in rebellion" uttered about people are by santimonious Christians - either in the process of condeming people or trying to cast something out. Thankfully I've never been on the recieving end myself, but as I say I have heard / seen it in the past.
This is in direct contrast to the Jesus I read of in Matthew. He was going off on a rant to the disciples and people about the religious elite. The central thrust of his argument was they were a bunch of hypocrites who did stuff to look good but were not good people in side. He pointed out this religious elite would kill prophets and teachers who came in Jesus name. All quite....well....quite I don't quite know what. I have to say I have a soft spot for the elite personally - apart from Nicky Gumble I like listening to them talk because it's actually like going back in time and listening to one of those films with Leslie Phillips or someone in and you don't hear it very often now.
Anyway I digress as usual. The basic point is Jesus says it's not about what you say but what about you do. Fine words mean nothing if not backed up with action.
The Psalm was another one which fitted in, but I have to say they're the bits which I'm getting least out of and can remember least without my diary where I make notes next to me.
