Back to the Bible

A quick note on how to fit in your bible reading - don't worry about where. Much of mine is taking place on a train or in the kitchen. Whilst cooking dinner in the evening I take a chair in and do my bible study whilst it's cooking sometimes.

Anyway back to the trawl through "the word". Old Testament wise over the last few days I've worked my way through from Gen 25:1 to 33:20, NT it's been Matt 10:1 - 12:45 and odds and ends wise it's been Proverbs 1:20 - 33, Psalm 9 and Proverbs 2:1 - 11.

OT wise it's been more dysfunctional family life with the story of Jacob and co. Could make various observations about treatment of women, (good and bad), observation of culture, and so forth. Basically though it's been an interesting short story which highlights that if the church has patriarchs like that we all have hope.

NT wise and other odds and endsĀ I've got the following observations and questions:

1) Jesus tells people to come to him and rest. Is it us who make things hard?

2) Jesus used knowledge of scripture and history to answer critics.

3) Justice is a theme which Jesus addresses and shows is not a "fluffy" option.

4) The driving out of demons things is still disturbing me....in terms of relationship with mental illness.

Main issue at this point in the journey is still that the "perfect God" seems somewhat less than perfect, but still very awesome.
