Question: Why when one of the functions of church is escaping lonliness can churches make you feel particularly lonely sometimes?
Answer: I don't know but I don't think it's intentional, I think it's probably based on assumptions and ignorance.
So why am I asking the question? Well, at the moment I'm feeling it quite hard. It's our church quiz night tomorrow night and yet again I find myself in the position of being the odd singleton who, if I go, is going to have to be allocated to whatever team is short. My crime, not being part of any particular "group" apart from our housegroup and not being in a couple. I have worked out that by accident of year of birth, lack of partner and lack of any natural ability (eg musical) I end up falling in the gap.
Sorry if this is a bit self-absorbing but sometimes lonliness hurts.
