Autumn leaves

Having been off at the end of last week and then taking Monday as leave I was shocked last night, getting the slightly later train I often do, how the nights are drawing in. It was dark coming home from work!

I enjoy autumn and winter mornings when they're dry, kicking through the leaves and working my way through the park, past the duck pond and cob-webs on the grass on the way to the station with the mist lifting around me. The evenings though are a different matter, walking home in the dark isn't particularly fun.

Now don't get me wrong, I know that the streets are actually far safer than those who peddle fear would have us believe, and that the majority of young people are actually decent, if sometimes a bit high spirited. However, the culture of our times still sometimes gets through and so with inadequately lit paths I avoid the park and take the longer way round. I still feel the street lighting is not what it should be (decent streetlighting is the one situation where I really do feel we should use more energy) but I feel more confident making my way home.

Oh and in terms of mentioning the C word (which Steve is talking about and the shorter days herald in) I am the Grinch. However, I have been cajoled into or worn down enough to agree to going to the works do at the beginning of December. Why??????????? As I said I am the Grinch!!!!!
