After my whirlwind trip to Wales I've finally got home (having successfully negotiated signalling problems outside Bristol, no Circle Line and a bus replacement service between Sittingbourne and Faversham). I have to say though, even with the joys of public transport, it was well worth the trip.
Had a lovely evening last night with T&E & Dith who are two of the most lovely people you could ever hope to meet. It's been a long time since I lost the power of speech through hysterical giggling & thoroughly enjoyed doing so again yesterday (although dinky ickle trains are probably not the place to do so).
Discovered that Cardiff is wonderful for surreal retail experiences and alternative tourism. Spiller Records , (see also this site), was a proper record shop like the sort you know the late John Peel used to frequent to find amazing things. It is apparently the world's oldest record shop and is just..... well, you get the idea. The Christian Bookshop which was just around the corner from Spillers provided me with The Forgotten Spurgeon by Iain Murray which looks like it will be an interesting if not somewhat controversial read and again in the same kind of area of Cardiff The Louis provided me with a Banana Split and Chocolate milkshake at a very reasonable price, whilst feeling like I had travelled back in time. Basically it was like the sorts of places I vaguely remember existing when I was a child, but which died a death with the advent of Ronald M and his friends.
Oh and the conference I went to was somewhat shorter than anticipated but well worth the visit, John Henson , (who I'd missed at Greenbelt) gave an excellent talk. Whilst I wasn't convinced by everything he said there was a lot in it which not only made sense but helped me understand how the different parts of my life fit together to make me an individual and how it may really be ok for me to be me even though I am to some extent unique.
