It may well say something about both the state of the party and the state of English politics generally that at the close of nominations there are only two people willing to stand for the leadership of the Lib Dems.
Over the coming month or so Nick Clegg and Chris Huhne will slog it out to see who takes the party forward. I have to say neither particularly appeal. The best I can say is that I think Clegg is better than Huhne but only in the same way that Brown is slightly more human than Cameron.
There is a month for my view to change, but as it is I think with the close of nominations that the yellow has moved a little more to being tinged with the reddish blue of the mundane middle ground what ever the result.
