Yet another two for the price of one book review.

Secret Diary of a Demented Housewife by Niamh Greene is a rather funny, no brainer, bit of chick lit. First two thirds is a really good read, last third is a bit crap really.

Secret Diary of a Demented Housewife by Niamh Greene is an interesting exploration of the role of women, marriage and motherhood in late / post modern, capitalist society. Greene undertakes an entertaining exploration of what it means to live in a world beyond third wave feminism. The themes of age, gender and workplace relations are also examined to differing extents in this contemporary novel which effectively uses humour and irony as it puts the lives of the cosmopolitan Irish middle classes under the microscope. One is left with the feeling that despite it's not so gritty realism that the author has written this with an eye clearly on it's potential to be adapted into a screenplay.
