I'm drifting back

According to today's yellow e-mails it's only a few days to go until I get the ballot paper and have to mark it one way or the other or decide to be totally cynical and not bother.

The mailings today were from Susan Kramer (in Chris Huhne's corner) and from Nick Clegg and I have to say have dragged me back into the very undecided zone.

Huhne is pushing his leftish credentials (or rather Kramer was) in an e-mail which contained what traditionally would have been known as neo-Marxist or new left theory, particularly by claiming that the meritocratic system we have in this country had actually failed some members of society.

Clegg was pushing himself in another glossy e-mail which was egocentricism dressed up as humble origins. I guess these e-mails are abit like glorified personal statements, but I have to say his attempts at showing his liberal (with a small l) credentials really put me off. Also I'm not sure if I read it correctly but he seemed to be saying that whilst we should encourage everybody in the international community to reduce their nuclear arsenal it really is rather useful to have a few trident missiles of our own to take to the negotiating table. Now if that was what he actually meant I have to say that it is something to majorly take into account and which could just sway the balance and so I vote for Huhne.

Whichever way it goes though I am gradually coming to the point where I'm fed up of being on the side of smiley minorities living in cloud cuckoo land. For me my faith and my politics are intertwined (and no that doesn't mean I think God belongs to any one party or ideology).I'm increasingly feeling that whilst the core beliefs of the groups I belong to reflect the theological framework I'm working from there is still something missing because underneath the smiles and spin both "the party" and "the church" are effectively modern social clubs firmly hoping for tomorrow rather than network communities engaging in the reality of today.
