Getting ready to make the journey

It's that time of year when the C word is being liberally thrown around and one is expected to smile brightly at the thought, mutter a bit about the over commercialisation and then throw yourself into the spirit of the thing.

Personally I do and always have struggled alot with this time of year. It's not exactly a good time for somebody who can struggle with social situations involving food and having to make conversation; can't sing a note and gets wound up by (i) people who refuse to recognise any religious meaning to the festival and (ii) Christians who refuse to recognise that the pagan mid-winter festivals did exist before ours and so it's not exclusively a Christian festival season. On top of that it's a time when life changes and family disruptions become highlighted.

There are a couple of things I have found which have helped including the Blue Christmas liturgy, which allows you to take time out and reflect. The bit I've linked to is for individuals but there is also a corportate bit if you scroll upwards.
