I have a request in the comments box that I enlighten readers on what I eventually found to wear on Saturday.
Well, after four hours of trapsing around some-where-with a big church-ville, I ended up doing a crinkley black skirt in the same kind of material as the nice scarves which aren't silk but are thicker yet have a similar effect (if that makes sense). Skirt was lined and almost upper shin (calf?) length, flaring out from the waist and then top was a simple thing which basically looked like a sun top but in a sheer (again I think that is the correct term) black. I wore this under my black dinner jacket and accessorised with necklace which has black string kind of chain and round shiny metal disc thing as the main aspect, shiny silver earings and a badge on the dinner jacket saying fake. Shoes were burgandy suede effect with small flower thing on where buckle would have gone if they weren't a velcro strap across the top. Hair was blow dried and eye shadow and mascara were applied.
I probably have not made anybody any the wiser and as I don't do photos it will have to remain unclear. However, I hope this has basically answered my reader's enquiry. Oh and thanks for your help and ideas all who contributed to the discussion.
