Over my life I've studied the odd subject and taught a few aswell but my heart belongs to Sociology (particularly the Sociology of Religion where theology and sociology occassionally overlap). So it was that one of the most memorable Greenbelt moments for me was in 2004 when I was able to sit and get rather over excited hearing Grace Davie give her talk on Religion in Modern Britain. As somebody who is not overly convinced by any one sociological perspective rather seeing the benefits and weaknesses in most there are few sociologists I really admire, but she is definately one of them. (Others are David Martin and Eileen Barker).

Tomorrow my students get to hear her at a conference and I have to say they have a rather over excited tutor going with them.
