More new media prayer usage

I know that too often our intercessory prayer is dependant upon the headlines but it is still useful to use media reports to pray intelligently for the world around us.

As a licence payer I find the BBC particularly useful for this. One way in which I use auntie beeb when praying is to sometimes put on their 24 hour news channel BBC News 24 but mute the sound. Due to the visual nature of their presentation you can pray through the headlines and situations but without the sound distracting you. It is possible to light a candle and express your concern to God over a situation which you can see and so not exactly connect with, but be more aware of. Sometimes although you won't the name of people involved you will have a face to focus on which can help make you more emotionally aware when praying. (I know this probably sounds like hippy pop psycho kak, and I'm not saying everybody will find it useful but I happen to sometimes).

The other way auntie beeb helps me to pray is through the BBC News website. Sometimes again I will just sit at the computer and pray generally for the stories on the front page; at other times I will open the page and prayerfully read the stories involved. Sometimes if I want to focus my intercessory prayer on a particular topic like education or politics I will go into those specific areas of the website.

Again I'm not saying this will be useful for everybody and I also find it extremely useful to switch of the tv, computer and ipod when praying sometimes, but it's another idea you may wish to consider.
