Worth watching

Sometimes car crash tv is strangely compelling. Following the debate that started raging on the train the other morning about Wonderland Virtual Adultery and Cyberspace Love I went onto BBC i-player and watched it today.

What disturbed me was the fact beyond the adultery which I clearly found distasteful I was not worried by many of the aspects my travelling colleagues were. Now I don't know if that is because I spend more of my time in cyberspace generally than they do or what, but from their discussions I was expecting to find the whole thing awful, but I didn't. I could see the attraction of 2nd Life, although I don't intend visiting any time soon and didn't view the thing as particularly scary or distasteful. I did think the apparent breakdown of a real life marriage due to issues which were obviously much deeper than just the internet addiction was really sad, but beyond that it seemed perfectly "normal".

One of the concerns they had was that the avitars didn't look like the person. Um, it's an avitar and this is essentially a fantasy game, of course it's not going to look like them. Also due to the nature of the avitar it wasn't meant to be particularly lifelike from what I could tell.

Did anybody else see it and what did they think?
