So today's book was a bit of light relief, Queen Mum by Kate Long. It's not as good as Bad Mother's Handbook but still a reasonable bit of throwaway chick lit. It's the sort of book which contains well written humour but with a dark undercurrent.
Basic story revolves around a couple appearing on "Wife Swap" except it's called The Queen Mum in the book and the fictional version involves audience voting at the end of the episode and their neighbours who are on the journey of coming to terms with the death of their child a few years earlier.
Oh and add a few "typical teenagers" into the mix and a thinly vieled analysis of the different approaches to parenting (independence v. protection), the death of an elderly relative who was distanced from their daughter and you basically have it.
So do I recommend it? Only if you have nothing better on your bookshelf waiting to be read.
