Different types of thinking

At the moment I am feeling a tide change occurring; strict guidelines are being replaced by concepts of individuality and professional judgement.

That's great; they're things I believe in. However, when it gets down to the detail it turns out that I am so obviously comfortable with the status quo. I like to know what I am expected to do, just not necessarily the way in which I'm expected to do it. Structure and models of good practice are important in my life. It seems in the rush to get rid of the excesses of the highly controlled way of doing things and empower people that the baby is getting thrown out with the bath water. Exemplars and signposts are being torn down, in some cases, whilst interestingly targets remain.

What I guess I am saying is that as we move into the brave new age which is following late modernity please can we take some of the things that worked with us. I don't want to reinvent the wheel, just to see how I could use it a little better :D
