More adventures from a geriatric fresher

After I had done some grown up uni type stuff today I regressed into being a proper fresher again. No, I didn't drink ridiculous amounts of alchol or do anything silly, rather I went exploring that which is the Freshers Fayre.

Now for anybody who has not experienced such things let me explain. The freshers fayre is basically a huge sales site where various organisations are seeking to attract members or sell their products, sometimes both. As one would expect I've experienced a variety of these things over the years, from both sides of the table. This was in a league of it's own though. The variety of clubs and societies was far more vast than anything I had ever come across before, yet the freebies weren't quite as good as I remember them and the sales pitches weren't generally as exciting.... apart from the people in wierd costumes in a tent outside trying to sell some kind of fantasy / re-enactment type thing.

It is a feature of freshers fayres that people spend more money than they intend signing up for stuff they are never likely actually to engage with again. Whilst I may have spent an ickle more than I intended I was picky about what I joined and so hopefully have made used my experience to make appropriate decisions.

Amongst the several, but not huge number of societies I joined was the Eurovision society........ yes they have a society for Eurovision song contest enthusiasts. Ok, so that may not have been such an appropriate decision, but..... it is something I am passionate about in my own way as those who give up on my addiction to cheese or join me in it can testify.

I also joined the hill walking society, having checked first that they did do some easier walks appropriate for novices. This society is one which enables its members to get out of the town and out walking in the Lakes and Northumbria and as such is something which appeals, although I think it might test my fitness somewhat.
