Tonight I've been off listening to one my favourite singer songwriters, Ralph McTell. One of the things I like about going to see him is that you never get the same show twice. As he says he always has to play "the hit", but beyond that he has a choice of about 300 other songs to choose from, aswell as occassional covers by other people.
The set was over an hour and a half of top class poetry accompanied by guitar, keyboard or harmonica. Apart from the obvious he played a range of songs including a couple with a religious theme, although he has no faith as he points out. Interesting to note, according to the website, that he's going to be on Songs of Praise on Sunday. There was an excellent bluesy gospel number which was a cover and a really good song called "I Sometimes Wish I could Pray". Amongst the rest of his set were a number of classics including "Mr Connaughton" and "From Clare To Here". All in all another good evening to add to the memories I have of seeing him over the years.
