The bench sits on the edge of the world,
paint peeling, weathered and beaten;
faded marker pen listing some recent visitors.
It sits amid a carpet of greens: grasses, nettles and thorns.
The ugliness and aging disguise the wisdom of
the bench that sits on the edge of the world.
The bench sits on the edge of the world,
greeted by the buttercups, dandelions and little blue flowers
that splash colour in its' face.
They soak up the sun which would beat down
if a canopy of leaves high above weren't sheltering
the bench that sits on the edge of the world.
The bench sits on the edge of the world,
considering the changes in view
since they built the cathedral which dominates.
The structure standing proud and central;
A beacon of hope to
the bench that sits on the edge of the world.
The bench sits on the edge of the world,
watching the trains travel across the viaduct;
taking travellers to and from the houses
whose roofs and windows she sits and watches.
Homes of those who occassionally come and visit
the bench that sits on the edge of the world.
The bench sits on the edge of the world,
considering the effects of the information learnt by the students,
in the castle to the right and newer mosaic of uni buildings to her left.
She considers the science that's created the wind turbines on the horizon.
Lessons learnt give wisdom so different to that collected by
the bench that sits on the edge of the world?
