Euro-week

Yes, no longer do you just have one night in May..... you now get the two semi's aswell and so it is Eurovision week. This is the week of the year where Third Party and I have true quality family time.... spending hours together discussing, laughing, and dispairing over cheesy music.

My daughters analysis is often deep but does leave me wondering. For example, last night after Belgium and the Czech Republic both failed to get through she posted the following comment on Facebook:
"Eurovision has let me down it's fixed everyones the same they're clones i want the 80's back we had decent uk entrys then. BRING BACK PROPER EUROVISION!!!!!!"

Now, besides the lack of using capital letters this got me because she wasn't even born until 1994! However, she has of course heard of Bucks Fizz and as somebody who can't remember some of the more painful bits of their post-Eurovision career holds them as the standard to live up to.

Back to the first semi-final. Had it been up to us the 10 going through last night would have been:

Belgium, (a kind of mad Elvis impersonator..... pure genius)
Czech Republic (Weakling in a super-hero costume singing in support of Roma)
Finland (Eminem impersonator....v. funny)
FYR Macedonia (Bon Jovi wanna be)
Switzerland (Delirious looky / sound alikeies)
Israel ("A message song" as we kept being told)
Bosnia & Herz... (A bit arty...but good)
Iceland (it was ok)
Portugal (difference of opinion here... Third Party didn't like, I thought she was sweet - especially when she cried at the end)
Finally we had a tie between Sweden and Romania.... so you dear reader can decide the final one the Durham jury would have sent through in this first round of fantasy Eurovision.

As it was the official list of peeps going through to Saturday night is:
Turkey
Sweden
Israel
Portugal
Malta
Finland
Bosnia and Herzegovina
Romania
Armenia
Iceland
