Clearing out the clutter

Yesterday I began the process of clearing out the clutter ready for the big move. Now before anybody says anything I know I have over 4 months until it will happen, but I have an awful lot of junk.

Yesterday it was just a couple of bags of clothes to the charity shop and a couple more down to the fabric recycling. Even with clothes it's not an easy, ok you know what you've grown out of and what you haven't and you know what you love and what you will certainly never wear again. However, there's the stuff you think might be practical to keep, although you're not sure you like it enough to go out in public wearing it and the stuff you do love to bits but you have to admit has seen better days and would be better off being recycled than taking up space that you don't have.

The books present my main problem, I need to decide what to keep and what to ditch. Now the theology and feminism bookcase is easy - that all stays as you never know what might come in useful in the future. With the fiction and politics bookshelves it becomes harder. The simple fact is I have too many books, and this is an opportunity to thin out but.....well how do I decide what I want / need to keep and will use / read again and what can make it's way to the charity shop? Or do I decide to become a second hand book seller with Amazon to raise an ickle cash?

This is why I have to start this far in advance, I'm not a brutal and decisive person by nature. Actually I'm a hopeless dreamer who wants to hold on to the good bits of the past as long as she can, without change, whilst similtaneously diving headlong into the adventures the future holds.
