Who needs drugs when you have church?

I have a theory on why Christians don't need artificial stimulants - the ways we spend our time is just so surreal that there is no point spending money trying to artificially alter reality.

Not that the surrealness is always bad. In many ways some of the best times and most fulfilling experiences I have had have been in these situations, but they are...... well wierd by normal standards.

Take today. I went to a womans day at church, which was actually quite cool.... but in that way that only church tends to be. We, (that was me and a bunch of older people), did some fairly traditional stuff and then got to basically pray by playing. We got to play/pray with paint, pasta, play doh, tiles and grout and tissue paper. There was also a chill out corner with the lap top playing some images whilst it pumped out some ambient stuff. It was actually alot of fun to switch off and just get a bit arty.

I do have some issues about all this, mainly relating to how we try to present ourselves as credible to (post)modern soceity when what we do is so wierd. Yet in our society there is a desire for cheese and play, expressed in a range of ways - it's just normally people "get messy" at the same time, and so lose the inhibitions that stop us feeling comfortable having fun .
