Didn't get to see St Trinians at the cinema when it was out, but now it's out on DVD I've managed to catch up with it.

Have to say that I was more than a tad apprehensive about watching it. I mean we all remember how it didn't quite work a while back when they tried to revive the Carry On films, and Alistair Simms was a unique and wonderful actor in the original St Trinian films. Glad to say, though, that this film worked.

The basic principle was the same but the script was very third millenium and so it wasn't a remake, rather it was a revisiting of an earlier genre. There was still that fine line between shocking adult and innocent appropriate humour mixing within what is basically a family film and it was very very funny. It was also good to see a very British film again, which as with the originals, this is.

In the mist of "life" it was good to find something that Third Party and I could sit, watch and laugh at together.

This leads me onto my parenting tip: a good collection of chick flicks or "dysfunctional family films" is a vital investment if you have teenage girls. Even if you're struggling to communicate in other ways, just sitting and enjoying a dvd together where you end up laughing at the same points gives you some level of communication.
