Tearfund are encouraging mothers to get involved in a spot of activism, according to this link on their website. Apparently World Water Day falls on Mothering Sunday, (22nd March) and so they're trying to get 500 mums to become signaturees on a letter to Gordon Brown.
Additionally, in the intray today, I got a mailing from Care for the Family aimed at mothers. They signposted this article about mums feeling guilty.
Finally today is the Women's World Day of Prayer , which takes place each year on the first Friday in March. Unfortunatley I was working during the day today and now live in a place which doesn't do an evening service for this and so I haven't been able to attend the service, which over the years I have really found a blessing. Each year it is based around women from one country, this year it is Papua New Guinea, and the WWDP website gives details of this country and the situation of women in it. The site also gives a background to the history of women's world day of prayer. It details how its roots go back to the late 19th and early 20th century. As somebody who is increasingly convinced we have so much to learn from Christian women in the Victorian and Edwardian periods I think this service's continuation in the modern era is a testament to them and their work. My hope is that as more women work and are unable to attend during the day that more towns will adapt, in the same way Herne Bay and other towns have over recent years, and start introducing an evening service so that this annual event doesn't die out and can attract a new generation of women to get involved.
