Godless East Anglians or Ignorant Norfolk Journalists?

Interesting article in The Guardian about East Anglia and atheism, but the writer is either geographically challenged or living up to all the jokes about people from Norfolk being hard of thinking, etc. Everybody else in the article is discussing a survey which suggests that those in the East of England are most sceptical about religion. She, on the other hand is writing about Norwich and Norfolk exclusively. As anybody who has ever experienced a Ipswich / Norwich derby and both sets of supporters trying to decide who is the pride of Anglia, (Ipswich obviously), will know that East Anglia includes Suffolk. My personal take on it is that the data isn't surprising. East Anglia also includes North Essex and parts of Cambridgeshire, therefore the population has quite a large middle class although pockets of deprivation and a large rural community do still exist. They're also less ethnically mixed overall than many other areas and less densley populated than some other areas of the country. Additionally alot of the professionals in the area work within technology and communication based industries. Don't get the idea though that it is totally godless. East Anglia has a diverse mix of religions and spirituality and a number of thriving churches. It's a place worth going to visit.
