I am beginning to realise that the conservative / liberal divide is v. artificial. Diving into a denomination which is accused of focusing too much on the social justice side and not enough on the evangelicalism side I have been struck by the way everything is rooted in scripture and reading what the bible says.
I have also been struck by the way difficult questions are asked and the individual is asked to reflect upon exactly how much of their life they are willing to let God have a say in. (The Covenant Service wording is the most soul searching prayer or piece of liturgy I have ever come across).
I have to be honest in some ways I am missing the "pre-packaged" form of engaging which tells you what you should think, but dresses this up as things for you to think about. I have realised the "give your life to Jesus" and then just do / don't do x, y and z involved far less soul searching. It was easy to just agree or disagree. Being made to think is useful, but hard.
