Friday Nights

Friday Nights is the new(ish) novel by Joanna Trollope, which I've been working my way through over the last few weeks as and when I indulge in any leisure reading.

Have to say in some ways it seems like a slight departure from most of her previous novels and isn't quite as good. With football and house music weaved into the plot it's kind of Nick Hornby in flavour but without the obvious enthusiasm for the subjects, or knowledge about them. Description of Stamford Bridge was fun though, shows how the upper middle classes do footie. The main problem I've found is that Trollope has had to make far too much basic  information obviously explicit for her readership, where as the Hornby reader is expected to have a higher existing literacy on these issues.

However, it is still engaging and generally a good way to escape the academic reading.
