Saturday was my b'day and it began with the most beautiful sunrise, as discussed in my previous entry. (Note 2012 is the year when I reach the next significant round number, hence this weekend being a trial run - well done on spotting that one Jack).
The sunrise was observed on the way to doing a stint the 24/7 prayer room which the inter-collegiate Christian Union were running. Spending an hour with God, in a small chapel surrounded by paper, pens and the prayers of lots of students apparently fired up for God was cool. It was also a good way for me to be able to see the positives and genuine faith in a group who I have some reservations about. Also getting to spend an uninterrupted hour with God, being not doing, was wonderful. Thinking I should schedule in specific uninterruptable "God time" more often.
Anyway after the usual sort of day: coffee, shopping I attempted to have a gathering. I say attempted because it basically failed miserably. Two people arrived, one on her way somewhere else. So it was that my practice run for 2012 suggested I need either some serious coaching or to give up on the idea of having gatherings. However, all was not lost; the person going onto somewhere else suggested that I tag along with her. Well I did and had a lovely time. Discovered that Geography students are lovely. Felt like a proper student zig-zagging my way home at a time when sensible people wouldn't have been out in the cold.
Sunday was also quite a cool day, although again it didn't quite go according to the script. Ended up getting fired up about the relationship between Christianity and politics at Methsoc last night, where a wonderful couple came and spoke to us about basically not being cynical about politics. Thinking it is time to find a way to venture out of the armchair and engage again.
Key thing this weekend was that for a variety of reasons I could have ended up going down the "nobody loves me so going down the garden to eat worms" route, but didn't. Rather I ended up meeting some new people and having one of the best weekends I've had for a long time. Thanks to all of you whose facebook, text or other messages helped contribute.
