Tall Skinny Kiwi has a post about "Adventure" and his plans for the year. In it he talks about how what adventure is.
The Wiki definition is apparently "An adventure is an activity that comprises risky, dangerous and uncertain experiences. The term is more popularly used in reference to physical activities that have some potential for danger, such as skydiving, mountain climbing, and extreme sports. The term is broad enough to refer to any enterprise that is potentially fraught with risk, such as a business venture or a major life undertaking. An adventurer is a person who bases their lifestyle or their fortunes on adventurous acts."
Using this definition I think it is clear that Third Party and I have been on and are continuting on an adventure.
The thing is though, and it's something TSK picks up on, is that if you are a parent going on an adventure there can be mixed reactions about whether you are doing the right thing for your children taking them on the adventure. The conclusion he comes to, which answers those critics who say security comes from sameness is: "I need to show that the safest place in the world for our kids is the center of God's intention for them, the path marked out for our family."
This is something, I can to a lesser degree relate to. The safest place isn't always the easiest or most comfortable place but it is the right place. With regards to Third Party I do have some "what if?" feelings about coming on this adventure, but mostly they have turned out to be "what if I hadn't done it?" feelings. There are also many "what if it doesn't work out?" feelings still lurking, (I'm still job hunting and the "how will I continue to afford to be here?" question remains). However, God has been faithful so far and I have to accept if I was right that God was the one who called me out into this adventure he didn't just call me alone and won't leave us wallowing in manure. Third Party was also called to come on an adventure too, whilst the reasons and detail may be different the fact is our family was called to come on an adventure up north - not just me. This is something I too often lose sight of. Third Party isn't just an add on to keep me occupied, she is an adventurer too.
