Don't normally log on twice in a day, but have just been on the Maggi Dawn site (which I would link to if I knew how, but I don't) and there is an interesting blog on there today. It's about the way that Sociology is apparently taking over, particularly in the emerging church.
As a Sociologist (well a Sociology teacher, think calling myself a sociologist is going a bit too far) it's interesting. I think that there is an important place for Sociology in terms of understanding the patterns of belief, but theology has a central role in helping us to understand the role and meaning of ancient texts, litergy and so forth and how we can authentically incorporate them (often reincorporate them into worship). Social science will never be able to give decent answers about biblical issues and correct (?) interpretations. It will also never be the key to "revival", rather its role is to understand patterns and to help people understand how "where they are at" and "what they are doing" fits into the wider picture of contempory society. I see it more as having a signposting function.
Finally since I logged earlier have heard Band Aid 20. Basically as a more chilled version it's cool, but the Dizee Rascal rap bit in the middle just didn't work for me.
