It's been mentioned before and no doubt it'll be mentioned again, but it's important

Normally opening the post is a boring and at times demoralising business (with the exception of obvious times of the year) however sometimes your day is brightened by an unexpected gem.

Today I got an action update from Christian Aid which was one of those things. Besides the usual post card to send it contained one of the Make Poverty History tie up white bands (which is dead useful seeing as last time I managed to get to Oxfam they hadn't got any white bands in at all yet, and for obvious reasons at the moment I'm not using the mail order option).

Secondly it had clearer details of the Make Poverty History campaigning opportunities next year (which I hadn't yet picked up from their website http://www.christianaid.org.uk/campaign/weekofaction/index.htm ).

Key opportunity which I wasn't aware of was the Global week of Action 10 - 16 April 2004. I encourage you all to go to the web link above and find out more, but key ideas are Fast on Monday 11 April, Collecting Trade Justice Votes during the week and an overnight vigil in London 15th / 16th April (Wake up to Trade Justice).

Now I am clearly focused on what all the above is about, but what has impressed me with this campaign is the creativity that is being expressed. I mean an all nighter in London sounds kinda fun on this occassion.

Finally (& then I'll step off my little soap box, but let's face it I haven't been off on one in a while) the mailing included a great quote from Archbishop Desmond Tutu
'2005 is a year of great opportunity. If everyone who wants to see an end to poverty, hunger and suffering speaks out, then the noise will be deafening. Politicians will have to listen.'
