They are just a mindless minority

OK, so some of you will have seen the images of Man U and Evertons match yesterday and it will reinforce the picture you have in your minds of football and football fans. (For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about some so called football fan threw a coin and there were 30 people held after the match for trouble that occured).

At this point I have to point out that it is a minority of people who engage in this type of ridiculous behaviour. They don't reflect the nature of the majority of football fans and this type of incident is quite a rare occurance. On this basis it does not mean that it dangerous to go to football or the passion that it ignites turns normal, sane people into animals (both of which are arguments I have heard when discussing football with people).

Yes football does ignite passions, it also bonds people into communities where they have something in common and there is a shared sense of emotion. However, that emotion can be positive as much as it can be negative.

If I sound like I'm going off on one, it's because I am, a little. Every time there is an incident like this people who don't quite "get" football start talking about how footie fans are thugs when the reality is most people are quite normal, like me.

Anyway tomorrow is back to work and I think that's quite enough said about footie for a while.
