Retro, but refreshingly new

Last Friday indulged in Top of the Pops with Third Party. Saw Maximo Park on there doing a song called Graffiti, it was exciting, fresh and lyrically interesting, "I'll do graffiti if you sing to me in French, What are we doing here if romance isn't dead?"

Today I bought the album (well CD) A Certain Trigger. To describe it is a bit difficult it has a comftable retro feel from around 1984, but at the same time feels refreshingly new. Whilst not wanting to make comparisons I would describe it as having a hint of Smiths lyrical mastery, a dash of the vocal tone of Mark E. Smith mixed together with tunes which seem to owe much to the Undertones.

I know there is a fair amount of that type of stuff about at the moment (Ordinary Boys particularly) but this is truly in a class of its own.

Favourite track : The Coast is Always Changing

Line which sums it up from Apply Some Pressure, "Write a review? Well, how objective can I be?"

Well in the case of this album, I can't actually be objective. Today has probably been the most exciting first play for me since The Strokes - Is This It?
