Wonders of the media age

Was bored this afternoon and so decided to see if Worth Abbey had a website. For those of you who haven't been glued to the BBC Two programme on Tuesday Nights, it's where The Monastery is set (see earlier post).

Anyway if you follow the link above you will find a site and a half. If you follow the Monastery programme link within the site you can get 5 tips on meditating and a really good looking website.

They had very clearly planned exactly what they were doing and prepared for the resultant interest. As a result this seems to be a useful website. It provides a non-threatening resource for those who may have found the programme interesting and want to explore more from their own front room. Also it is extremely useful for those of us who are beginning to explore outside our own (often evangelical) traditions who don't really know where to start with exploring Catholicism or the type of spirituality that is described in the programme.

So all in all add together the website and the programme and I think this is one of the most exciting missional things in a long time in this country (whether it was intended to be or not). It's not telling people what or how to believe, rather telling them what might be useful on the journey if they decide to go and explore spirituality.

And if this article from LICC about Culture Beyond the Fringe is anything to go by it is this type of spirituality that people are looking for - one where they can find God, rather than just finding the church.
