Today was the first real weekend of the summer. How do I know? Well I spent this afternoon in a field in a park enjoying a taste of how I hope heaven will be.
There was a small, local Make Poverty History festival today.
The sun was shining down, and it was one of those times when it was possible to just sit and chill and people watch. The people watching today proved to be a really positive experience, in a way that tends only to happen at these types of events.
Where else would you find Local gay activistis selling raffle tickets to the local majorly evangelical types and being quite happy to take a tract in return. Whilst also mixing with heavyweight socialists . Besides these groups there were more moderate groups such as Christian Aid , World Development Movement and speeches from groups as equally diverse.
To me it illustrated the (often) forgotten value of these types of campaign (such as MPH) the fact that you get the diverse groups working together towards a common goal and stopping the painful attacks on each others lifestyles or ideologies that can (sometimes) occur.
Oh and Bookmarks had a stall so I finally managed to get hold of a copy of the Regime Change Begins at Home playing cards.
