Eleanor Rigby by Douglas Coupland is another interesting book from a modern "classic" author, with a mind that appears to explore issues with depth, that others of us shy away from. He then appears to present his thoughts gripping narratives, with complex plot lines and cultural references, which are at times extremely subtle.

Eleanor Rigby is another of these books, with a gripping plot, which jumps about in a way that makes sense, but requires the reader to remain alert whilst reading. In this book he obviously deals alot with the concept of lonliness (for those who did not make the connection between the title and the theme go find a copy of Revolver and listen to the Beatles classic). At times, though, he moves across the fine line from lonliness to singleness (whilst connected they are different) in a way which is interesting.

Also in the course of the book you encounter MS as a disease and the fine line between eccentricity, enlightenment and mental health issues, in addition to slight explorations of the way we work and shop in a late/post modern world. Oh and there is an interesting incident with a piece of space debrie.

It's one of those books that grips you, but as I say I think you have to engage with. I reccommend it to you - but only if you are ready to be challenged and to think, as well as get into a good book to relax to.
