Tools of the Evolving Church

Recent events, national and local have heightened my awareness of the way that the nature of my/our prayer life is changing, in line with technological developments.

It is now more practical to pray for the activities of various organisations and individuals as we recieve their electronic updates on the e-mail.

As we read various bloggs or news articles it becomes appropriate to bring an individual or set of circumstances to God in prayer at the computer. It also becomes possible, through the content of sites such as Sacred Space and the postings of people like Ian to use formal prayers and litergy from traditions other than those we have previously experienced.

In situations of high intensity, national ones such as The London Bombings, or local ones such as that I posted on yesterday, virtual communities become prayer rooms & the text option on the mobile works to quickly mobilise an informal prayer network.

These "on the ground" changes to prayer and networks of church aren't the cutting edge innovative stuff of the emergent or emerging church movements, rather it seems they are the tools of the current church as we evolve in line with the world and technology we live in.
