As a non-Anglican reading the Gafcon final statement I am an ickle confuddled. The statement seems to be a pretty standard statement of evangelical belief, apart from the references to the 4 Ecumenical Councils, Classic Anglican Ordinal, Thirty-nine articles and the 1662 Book of Common Prayer (the specifically Anglican bits I'm guessing). I thought they were going off to Jerusalem to have their own do rather than coming to Canterbury for Lamberth because of the whole "Robinson" thing. Rather it seems, reading this that their "issues" seem to be as much with keeping tradition and stopping ecumenicalism as it is with interpretations of the bible.

Personally I could buy into an awful lot of the statement, and most of it just seems to reflect what I believed was standard Christianity. Obviously I have an ickle bit of an issue with point 8, but still actually hold to the wider principle behind it, i.e. that sex should be in faithful, lifelong, monogomous relationships and that those relationships are the basis for the family. Perhaps it's because as a non-Anglican I don't really understand the deal with the bits I mentioned earlier that I don't get what all the fuss has been about. Please could somebody explain about Councils and Ordianls, etc.
