Role models are people that you don't want to copy, but you want to learn from. They are people that have something about them that you want, so they are people you observe and listen to, hoping to pick up something of whatever "it" is that you see in them.

I guess we have a variety of role models in different situations and the aspects of their characters we admire can differ depending upon the situation. However, they have the unifying feature that there is something about them which we respect.

Because of their nature we don't have too many role models rather they are a few people, whom we look up to. In my job role models have been people who I can see care about their students as people, rather than just results and are good teachers with high results because they want them those students to succeed (rather than being concerned with the statistics themselves, although they want the statistics to be fair and accurate), people who work hard, and respect good decisions but have a healthy disregard to some of managements more interesting ideas and show that they believe in teamwork and good relationships between staff to make it all work.

They are special people and we miss role models when they move on, although we appreciate that these are wise decisions not come to easily. As such today is going to be a hard day at work for alot of people as one of our role models leaves.
