Went to see the film last night and my personal opinion is that is definately not as strong a version as the the series was.
The filming was beautiful and there were some stunning views (of both types), and the film has a stronger Mr. Collins, I think. The characters of Mr & Mrs Bennett were well played, as they normally are in any adaptation. I don't actually think there is a lot in it in terms of the two portrayals of Mr. Darcy. The only real disappointment for me was Judy Dench, who normally transports you to the character she is playing and you forget the huge catalouge of work she's done before. However, on this occassion I really felt that she was rehashing her character from The Importance of Being Earnest (Lady Bracknell) and not playing it aswell. Also I felt that the lead was a passable, yet not strong Elizabeth.
So although I would recommend you go and see the film, as any reasonable adaptation of Austin is going to be enjoyable and this certainly was, the BBC version remains the gold standard.
