Today we had a teambuilding event at work which actually was quite enjoyable, particularly as we had time to sit and network together in the sunshine between events.

The day finished with an awards ceremony and I was really pleased that a couple of people who really deserved it got recognition for who they are and what they do. Both of these people have majorly supported me in my work and are also two of the most wonderful human beings you could meet.

S got an award for the amount of professional development she had completed during the year. Now, I know S and am aware atleast in part what she put herself through to do this training, and how she genuinely has sought to use it to help the rest of us. Therefore, I was really pleased that she what she had put herself through this year was recognised. She is an amazing woman who has helped me loads over the last couple of years and so that was cool.

J, our admin assistant, got the admin assistant of the year award. Again this was particularly pleasing as he is a really great and lovely person who goes so far beyond what is required to help staff and students alike. Not only does he keep us organised but he also calms us when required aswell. Think it was summed up when one of my students said her windscreen wipers had broken and she didn't know what to do so she phoned the college to speak to J "because he knows everything". He is also one of the kindest blokes you could wish to meet aswell.

Finally was good to see our head of section amongst the 22 of us getting awards for being observed as being outstanding in our teaching and learning observations this year. As head of section she is our manager, but within that she has also been a teacher and so understood our frustrations with what she has had to implement at times. Was glad that her teaching is what she was being recognised for, it makes the positive feedback and advice given mean more - somehow. Also really pleased for her because despite the way everybody tends to moan sometimes about managers she is a really nice woman who deserves some positive recognition.

Anyway, all in all whilst it was a pity that everybody couldn't be honoured, (because I work with a team of outstanding people - IMHO), it was really pleasing that the 3 of the colleagues who have all in there own ways encouraged me and influenced me most over the last couple years were honoured for their wider work as outstanding professionals.
