Recently recieved my copy of Tate Etc, the seasonal magazine produced by the Tate galleries. It has a facinating article about the role of Absinthine in the art coming out of Paris at the end of the 19th century, beginning of the 20th century.

This is to tie in with the Degas, Sickert and Toulouse-Lautrec London and Paris 1870 - 1910 exhibition which is on at the Tate Britain, in London, from 5th October to 15th January.

Facinating article, which I found particularly useful. Have to admit that until I read it I thought Toulouse-Lautrec was just a made up character in Moulin Rouge. Now understand & know why his character was included in the film. Apparently he was a disabled aristocrat who illustrated life in the music halls, bars and brothels particularly the Moulin Rouge.
