Bit of history

Have found this article on Sojonet about the 50th anniversery of a poetry reading.

Now as events go it may not seem as important as Paul first making music with John or Peel getting onto the radio, but actually from the article it does seem to be a very important anniversery, culturally. This poetry reading was a major event, apparently because of Allen Ginsburg .

Now I don't know anything about Ginsburg or poetry really, but I do know the influence the beat poets (Ginsburg, etc) had on the social movements which emerged from the underground culture of the 1960's (i.e. anti-war hippy, types) and so apparently whilst this reading can not be seen as the seed of 1968 & all that it can be seen as one in a series of contributing events.

Perhaps another area of history to be explored (when and if I ever have some time - yes, I am currently practising that art of procrastination).
