Raise a glass (3)

Today, I wish to raise a glass to the heady days of last summer. On a personal note July and August were probably two of the most exciting months of my life, but they also produced some good blogging material. (I was going to link to a couple of extracts, but I realised for various reasons the good bits had all been a series of posts about stuff. As such if you want to get read anyof this stuff go to my archives for the appropriate months and scroll down, as the v.good bits are at the beginning of each month).

To me the most important part of blogging is sharing information with others. This is (i) so that you can share events that you have had access to, which for geographical or other reasons others haven't been able to have, with others and (ii) so that if you have picked up on something you can engage with it further, through sharing it & your perspective on it with others, who may in turn engage in the conversation.

So this is why my blogging highlights were: the MPH meeting where a bishop from Ghana, the head of Christian Aid and Gordon Brown spoke and The Baptist World Congress. They were two events that I realised that I was priviledged to be attending and really wanted to share something of what I'd learnt from them with others.

It was also around that time of year that I had two highlights of being a Wiblog (or indeed blog) reader.

This series of posts from Sophs gave the "real" protesters view of July in Scotland. Whilst the majority of the rest of us (including myself) were basically on a cozy jolly up to Edinburgh, Sophs and others whom I have total respect for were engaged in the real acts of protest.

The second posting, which I think will remain one of my memories of a truly awful event, is Fishsoup's entry on 8/7/05 Her account of London on the day of the 7/7 bombings was truly moving & a testament to the professional skills she possesses.
