Humour is one of those things

Humour in an accademic text is one those things that you get or you don't. After today I think that it may just be my sense of humour, but in a text which ends by talking about "joyful wisdom" and the way the writing of Oscar Wilde "carries a host of different messages similtaneously" I maintain that comments like "being outed by God" and "a queer kind of post-sainthood" were intended to raise a rye smile as they made their point, (even if most people seemed to have missed the humour).
What ever, I think that there should be more humour within academic texts. I mean if you are going to struggle for hours with stuff an occassional laugh can't hurt.
