Having "done politics" yesterday I really didn't intend to again today, but seeing as the leadership bashing I commented upon yesterday has today turned into a leadership vote and as Lib Dem member I'll be required to vote on the issue I thought I may aswell make this the first of what will, inevitably, become an occassional series over the coming months / weeks.
The statement was undoubtably a brave one; any public figure who has to, in what ever circumstances, reveal details of struggles within their private life is to be supported, on one level. However, whether I, as a grass roots member, will continue to support his leadership is quite another matter. I don't know, it's one of those things which will have to be carefully considered, particularly once we know who, (if anybody), is going to stand against him, and there has been time to clearly consider the issues involved.
I know that if certain figures were to stand I would cast my vote in their direction, but if that situation doesn't arise I will be left, as with all members, with a difficult decision. At the end of the day we are preparing not to vote on personal preference, or whether to give the individual personal support, but on what we feel will be best for the party, and in turn ,(as a strong national opposition is vital), for the country.
So watch this space, as the leadership unfolds for what this particular members opinions, or alternatively keep clear whenever there appears to be a new development ;-)
