All in the accent

My friend told yesterday at work that they can tell when I am "controlled" stressed; I go into my "natural" regional accent (i.e. start sounding like a yokel). Guess this is because in the same way alot of people have a "telephone voice" I have a "teaching voice", and so at work they get the decent pronounciation.

However, in church it appears that I use the "natural" accent normally and so people are surprised to find that I have my other way of speaking. I didn't know this until Saturday when, having slipped into "teacher voice" without realising it, somebody commented that they didn't know I could speak without my accent.

What worries me, is that from these comments one could argue I must be in a near constant state of controlled stress in church. Don't think I am, actually I think that I am relaxed (and that is the other point when I really do sound like a farmer). Other possibility, which upon reflection may be more likely, is that in church I am constantly moving between being relaxed and controlled stressed and so just use the "natural" one all the time. Also I don't often feel the need to try and be a "proper grown up" in church and my "teaching voice" is v.much my "proper grown up" voice.
