It had been a while since I had ventured out to the downotwn area to see a gig that was not at the House of Chops. We rocked up to the Planeterium (not it's real name). I love the Planeterium it is a mellow little venue holds around 500 and is a legend in the local music scene. It is one of those places that have seen some amazing acts grace it's stage over the years. It is the place that acts play are their way up and then go one to play larger arenas.
It is had a much loved committed crew of workers over the years who you get to recognise. It has it's little quirks such as it refuses to sell rum as they believe it makes people angry and more likely to get into fights. On the last two visits they have upgraded and used a security firm for all their security needs. They are nothing short of rude thugs. You know those security guards who are just rude and surly and if they smiled it would crack their face. Well, they are like that. The funny thing is one of them is the brother of a friend of ours. WHile we were watching the show he would continue to walk by and we would smile and say hello and he would just ignore us.
One of the realy major changes is that you can no longer smoke in a club like the Planeterium in the State of Chops. It was the first time in a very long time that I walked out of a gig and did not reak of smoke and need to have a shower before going to bed after a gig.
