If you have not read the blog entry called the Good Shepherd do yourself a favour or today's adventure in the world of Chops will make no sense.
The other night Mrs Lovely One and I went to the U2 concert in our town. It was situated in a very large stadium which holds 50 odd thousand people. We got there a bit early and were made to walk the long way around the stadium to get to the relevant gate. This was causing warning bells to go off in my head. This was a delibrate stalling technique to save a back log of people by keeping them busy with walking around the long way. We came around a corner and saw all number of barricades that formed a funnel shape. At the funnel stood about 2000 people. They let us through the next section which was a 100 metre walk onto the warm up track of the stadium.
Once at the warm up track we then walked through what looked like the world's longest airline line. It was about 80 metres long and went through about 12 lanes. We were walked through this maze for around an hour at a pretty good speed. The line held a couple of thousand people. There no gaps and the lines got closer together at the end where you went up the hill over the bridge and into the stadium after the compulsory frisk, bag check and ticket scan.
The show was awesome by the way.
But there were a lot of negative comments about the crowd control. It was truly like a cattle run. But they had a couple of thousand people all supervised by 3 security guards. As a professional I was pretty jealous because it ran well. A little bit of a dehumanising act but the best possible way to control the crowd given the circumstances.
