Another happy day at the House of Chops and then it started to rain. It was so heavy I could hear it in the cave of solitude (my office) which has walls made of concrete and is rather bunker like. It was pouring down and there was hail. I don't wish to tell God what to do with the weather but tropical downpours with thunder and lightening do not generally happen in Autumn.

Getle reader you may say Chops but we need the rain to make gardens grow and such talk as that. But what you may not know gentle reader is that the House of Chops leaks like a sieve. A 500 metre long sieve. The H.O.C has a fancy roof that is unique and very pretty. So unique I can stand on Makeout Mountain (not it's real name) about 10 k's from the H.O.C and pick out the roof because it is so unique and pretty. To enable the design they had to put a certain type of guttering on the roof to whisk the water away. The only hassle is when the type of gutter we have is faced with a deluge it leaks. Did I mention I live in a subtropical city that is known for it's many dumping downpours. Somebody did not think of that when designing the H.O.C. which is a shame really.

I have seen damage before but not like this. It was so severe it was pouring out of working light fittings. Yeah that's pretty bad. It was cascading through the fancy big roof like no one has seen in the time the building has been built. So bad they needed tarps to cover up the av equipment and 40 chairs were soaked and they need to be dry by morning. It was also so bad they grabbed a video camera to record how bad it was.

The exhibition space fared not much better. We have a show setting up and it had 10 or so leaks thankfully just in the aisles and not really on any stands. But it is embarrassing to admit the building leaks to clients when there is so much water that leads on the floor are submerged in the water.

So what of you Chops you may ask. What impact did it have on me. Every department called me to let me know it was happening. Some even asked me what they should do. I even had managers calling me asking if the damage was as bad as staff were reporting. I also had several clients call me as well wanting answers. So all in all a fun time was had by all. It was one of those days where you wanted to disagree with whoever said the Show must go on. Ahh the perils of being in Upper Lower Middle Management.

The good thing is everyone pulled together as a team and grabbed bins to place under the leaks. Thanks must go to the two poor maintenance guys who were just lucky to be rostered on. But as always we survived to fight another day.

Till Next Time Please Let me Strangle the Architect,

Chops
