It's Not Going To Be a Hassle Is It?

When you hear those words from a client take old Uncle Chops advice and run for the hills and quickly. Because my friend I will bet a lot of money that it will be not only a haassle but in a major way. But being the total professional I say We'll see what we can do (which means I make you no promises and I'm not allowed to say no straight away) and scurry away and work a on a plan. This happened to me recently when the client said "You know that meal we have for 50 people in 4 hours I need to cancel it till tomorrow we had a boo boo on the schedule". A Boo Boo a small scrape on a child's knee is a Boo Boo but a scheduling change like this is a monumental stuff up!! The event has been in the planning for over a year!! I smiled and said I will inform the chefs and see what we can do. Now normally any cancellation within 48 hours means you still get the bill. It's in the contract. After telling the food people they gave me the following answer. There will be no penalty and we will squeeze it in tomorrow. That does not mean the problem is solved, not by a long shot. The house is full so where do you want to put them. Thankfully we had a room spare after 9 am so we changed it from seats to tables.

The client was very happy we saved them in one minute around $1400 dollars. They were very very lucky the food was already prepared but we were very very busy and could use it elsewhere and the staff was also used elsewhere due to the fact we had several staff call that morning sick. You know if someone had saved me those sort of dollars that quikly and easily I would buy them some Chocolate or a bottle of wine. I got a that's great thanks. That's it. I guess that is all part of the adventure of working in the game. Pull that next time and we may not be so accomodating. I am not so concerned but those that had to make massive changes to staff schedules were not so happy. But we live for the adrenalin rush.

P.S Thank you for your comments about the Storm. The HOC location for the sake of my job and the confidentiality clause I signed is under wraps sorry. We did survive, it was good to see all departments pull together and fight the good fight shoulder to shoulder.
